The Jazz Society of Ghana (JSG) is a non-profit, all volunteer organization supported by membership dues and donations, dedicated to promoting jazz music in Ghana. JSG was started in 2004 by a group of dedicated jazz enthusiasts with a determination to spread the appreciation of jazz music both among the youth and adults and to support live jazz by local musicians.

     Our objectives are to:

    • promote and foster an appreciation of jazz music in all its forms.
    • encourage the playing of live jazz at selected venues
    • actively encourage young musicians and jazz enthusiasts to develop their talent for and appreciation of jazz music
    • provide an avenue to introduce jazz appreciation to schools.
    • provide an informal and non-competitive atmosphere in which members can develop their individual skills.
    • liaise with and form affiliations with other jazz associations and similar organizations worldwide
    • make invitation to and host visiting jazz groups and members of other jazz organizations and individual performers.

In May 2005, the JSG hosted the 21-piece University of Maryland Eastern Shore Jazz Ensemble for two performances which formed part of an educational tour of Ghana. Following what has generally been acclaimed as one of the moist successful jazz events in Ghana, the JSG is now teaming up with Stanbic Bank and other jazz support to promote the first Ghana Jazz Festival which is expected to be an annual affair. The event to be held during December 1-4, 2005 will feature four days of jazz workshops, lectures and concerts by jazz performers from Ghana, South Africa and the U.S.A.
